Wanderlust; noun - a strong desire to wander or travel and explore the world.
Traveling may be limited this summer but taking a vacation isn’t impossible! Also, we love a good staycation & that is always an alternative option.
Yes, you can travel, but now more than ever, it’s necessary to do your homework, as the safety of your summer travels depends on a variety of factors -- location, length of trip, the number of people you encounter, transportation methods, etc.
Here at Velvet, Bali is at the top of our travel bucket list and the Governor of Bali recently announced that they will be reopening their borders for international tourism this Fall – so who better to get some travel info + inspo from than Jetset Christina, Travel & leisure’s #1 luxury travel blogger!
Q: Hi Christina. You must be so excited to get back to Bali, as that is your second home! When exactly is the island reopening?
A: I cannot wait to get back! I miss Bali so much right now. And I know so many people had trips planned to Bali this year and my heart breaks right with them because those plans have all been thrown out the window. I’m so excited to share that the Governor of Bali has announced that the island will be reopening its borders for international tourism on September 11th, 2020.
Q: What did the Bali Governor, Wayan Koster, say are the three stages of reopening Bali’s economy?
A: He said that Phase 1 of Bali opening to tourists would start July 9th, 2020, when Balinese businesses will begin to reopen to the local people in Bali. According to the direction of the national task force for the acceleration of handling COVID-19, the first stage will allow for the following businesses to operate: health services, government offices, customs and religion, finance, trade, logistics, transportation, cooperatives, traditional markets, modern markets, restaurants and stalls, agriculture, plantations, marine fisheries, construction.
Then Phase 2 of Bali’s reopening would begin July 31st, 2020, when Bali will reopen the island to domestic tourists. Indonesian tourists will be able to travel to the island and tourism activities, tours and attractions will reopen.
Then Phase 3 of Bali’s reopening on September 11th will be when Bali will officially reopen to international tourists. No more details have been released if Bali will be open to all countries or if testing will be required.
Q: What are some things you want to remind those planning a trip to Bali or planning to travel in general?
A: It’s important to keep in mind that things with COVID are extremely fluid, and these things can still change, or that there may be more requirements to enter Indonesia. Be sure to check with the country’s government regulations before booking your trip & keep your travel plans flexible if you are planning a trip (to Bali) anytime in 2020, or early 2021.
If you are planning on traveling to Bali in 2020, please do so in a way that protects both yourself and the island you are visiting. Just because it’s a vacation destination does not mean the virus doesn’t spread just as easily there. I would stay away from indoor restaurants, large group gatherings, and make sure you wear a mask and bring lots of hand sanitizer . We need to do everything we can to protect the vulnerable locals of Bali, or anywhere we travel to during these times.
We hope this helps those of you planning your summer or future travels feel a bit more at ease. Thank you again to the lovely @jetsetchristina!
